Approaching fifty, Susan finds herself newly divorced, unexpectedly redundant, and living in her childhood home, looking after her elderly father and teenage daughter. In the charity shop where she volunteers, Susan meets David, an attractive widower, who donates some of his late wife’s belongings, including a fabulous pair of red shoes.
